Hancock High students are planning to hold a memorial service for two seniors fatally injured in a car accident Saturday afternoon near Hancock North Central Elementary School on Mississippi 603. Tanner Adam and Steven Hoda, both 17 of Kiln, were traveling northbound in a 1995 Toyota pickup when it collided head-on with a southbound 2000 Chevrolet pickup driven by another 17-year-old Kiln resident, Mississippi Highway Patrol said.

"Our hearts are broken," said Hancock High Principal Rhett Ladner. "The students are struggling through it, but doing very well." Adam was an identical twin to his brother Taylor and son of Hancock County Emergency Management Agency Director Brian Adam. Hoda was a junior firefighter with the Fenton Volunteer Fire Department. Both teens enjoyed the outdoors, particularly fishing and hunting. In a statement released to the Sea Coast Echo Tuesday, the Adam family said, "Our family has suffered a tragic loss and is mourning greatly for Tanner. We must not forget the suffering and heartache the Hoda family is also going through.

“Our prayers are with them. And as broken-hearted as we all are, we must continue to pray for the recovery of the other young man in the accident. We deeply appreciate the support we have received from family, friends and strangers alike. God bless us all." Ladner said many students and faculty learned of the accident — which occurred just hours before the school's Homecoming festivities — through word-of-mouth before arriving at school Monday morning. To help students cope with the loss, on-campus counseling has been made available through the district. MHP Cpl. Johnny Poulos said the driver of the Chevrolet — also a Hancock High student — is no longer in critical condition. Adding, investigators are still reconstructing the accident, but impact was in the northbound lane. Visitation for Hoda was held Tuesday at Riemann Family Funeral Home on Kiln-DeLisle Road in Pass Christian. The funeral service followed at Annunciation Catholic Church. Visitation for Adam will be held at the same funeral home through 11:30 a.m. today. Funeral services for Adam follow at noon at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Dedeaux. "It's a very difficult time for all our student body at the high school ... and staff ... they get extremely close to the students," said Hancock County School District Superintendent Alan Dedeaux. "It's a tragedy."
